BigChange cleans up with a 130 vehicle roll out for LPW Mobile Fleetwash

DPD van image

The UK’s leading Commercial Vehicle Cleaning company LPW has rolled out BigChange’s 3-in-1 JobWatch system across its 130-strong fleet.

Their Mobile Fleetwash units provide convenient on-site cleaning for thousands of vehicle operators across the country including DPD, Maritime Transport, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and XPO. The all-in one JobWatch system from BigChange combines a back-office CRM system (linked to Sage 200) with job scheduling, an Android mobile app for mobile washing technicians and real-time GPS tracking of all vehicles in the fleet.

Founded in 1972, LPW have been making vehicles shine for more than 45 years and have grown to dominate the UK’s commercial vehicle cleaning market. Innovations such as the company’s Mobile Fleetwash division have brought clients the added convenience and flexibility of on-site cleaning with state of the art washing equipment and detergents. Cleaning in excess of 20,000 vehicles per week, the company identified the need to switch to a paperless and seamless approach to planning, managing and scheduling jobs, giving customers a single point of contact and the ability to make booking as easy as possible. After evaluating a number of software vendors, LPW chose JobWatch from BigChange.

The JobWatch system has revolutionised the booking and scheduling process, connecting the contact centre with mobile washing technicians in real-time. Integrated CRM ensures a single unified view of the customer across their multiple sites and individual vehicles. This has given customers a true view of cleaning KPIs and allows effective management of their cleaning plan. Intelligent scheduling allows advisers to quickly offer customers cleaning slots at a time and date to suit them, taking into account real-time technician and equipment availability, proximity to the customer and live traffic data. The intelligent scheduling engine ensures maximum flexibility for the customer whilst minimising travel time and distance, driving fuel savings and a reduction in emissions. Real-time visibility of the operation ensures contact centre advisors are empowered to answer customer questions in an instant, and automated estimated time of arrival (ETA) alerts by email and text message ensure customers are always fully informed.

BigChange technology is saving LPW hundreds of thousands of pieces of paperwork annually, replacing manual paper job-cards with electronic workflows running on a rugged waterproof Samsung Android Tablet used by each technician. Each day, technicians complete an electronic walkaround check, logging and photographing any defects that are managed to resolution via integrated fleet management functionality. On starting their timesheet, technicians have instant access to their jobs for the day with detailed information about each customer, site and vehicle. Job data is automatically loaded into the integrated sat-nav with turn-by-turn guidance and live traffic updates. On arrival, the app ensures technicians wash the correct vehicles and keeps a detailed audit trail of work completed on each car, van or truck. Photos can be captured before and after the washing process for added proof of service. On completion, customers automatically receive electronic job-cards via email, proactively confirming completion. This instant sync with the back-office means no ‘paperwork’ needs to be returned for processing and allows LPW to invoice immediately from the JobWatch system.

Daniel Woods, Group IT Director at LPW Europe commented:

“The BigChange system has been a game-changer for us. Our entire team is now seamlessly connected on one single cloud based platform and the technology is supporting our growth plans. Scheduling on-site visits to clean over 20,000 vehicles per week was proving to be a real logistical challenge but this scalable system is ensuring we can deliver a dependable and high-quality service that can be delivered at competitive cost for our clients.”

Leading utilities players roll out BigChange technology to 5000 service engineers

Joseph Web

Mobile Workforce Management specialist BigChange has won contracts to supply its three-in-one JobWatch platform to over 5,000 mobile technicians at leading players across the Utilities Sector. The orders come from companies operating in the Public & Private sector involved in Water, Gas & Electric including the installation of 2nd generation Smart Metering.

BigChange’s three-in-one solution is delivering a paperless revolution for users and combines a cloud-based Job PlanningScheduling & CRM back-office, Android mobile app running on rugged Samsung tablets and hard-wired or app based live tracking of vehicles and resources. Industry specific versions of the JobWatch system have been implemented by Sutton & East Surrey Water PLC, Sheffield Council, Smart Metering specialist Providor part of Lakehouse PLC, Hewer Facilities Management, The McDougall Group, Woods Building Maintenance and 2015 BBC Apprentice winner ImpraGas.

Replacing manual planning and paperwork, the BigChange system allows back-office users to plan, manage, schedule and track work effectively including planned maintenance and urgent reactive work. In the back-office, the system is enabling planners to respond faster to customers, intelligently allocating work orders based on real-time engineer availability, skills, live location and parts stock. This is significantly increasing productivity; minimising customer wait time and driving first time fix at competitive cost. Assets and equipment are fully-managed by the system, allowing service requirements to be achieved effectively and an integration with trading platforms such as Homeserve allows for seamless collaboration with service partners.

Mobile engineers and technicians benefit from an easy to use Android mobile app that replaces all paper job-cards, risk assessments and method statements. Technicians start their day by completing an electronic timesheet and vehicle check, before instantly accessing the day’s work orders. Integrated sat-nav with live traffic ensures the best route is taken and customers receive proactive ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) alerts by text and email. On arrival, the JobWatch app guides technicians step by step through job-specific workflows and captures essential information such as site-photos or test readings. Users can search for parts and add them instantly to the job. Proof-of-service and customer signature is captured and synced with the back-office instantly. The system generates invoices, custom reports, certificates, legal documents and fully branded job-cards that are automatically shared via a customer’s booking portal or email. This paperless approach is saving BigChange customers hundreds of thousands of pieces of paper annually, along with the manual back-office administration that was required to manually process these documents.

The turn-key solution is transforming the way companies manage their entire customer experience such as companies fitting and maintaining Smart Meters nationwide on behalf of the major UK Power networks. For example, Customers are handled by a centralised call centre, who use automated workflows in the BigChange back-office to quickly ascertain the type of meter installation required and offer customers a selection of available appointments via the scheduler. This triggers automatic ordering of parts and materials required and technicians complete their jobs on the BigChange app. The system can plan and manage thousands of jobs per day.

The BigChange JobWatch system is also delivering superior value for Heating, Gas, Electric and Home Automation businesses such as ImpraGas, founded by 2015 BBC Apprentice Winner Joseph Valente and owned 50/50 with Lord Sugar. The company is on a mission to revolutionise the plumbing industry, using the BigChange platform to offer customers a faster, improved service. The technology is not only managing the entire operation all the way from quotation to invoice but is also ensuring consistent service quality and compliance. Gas Safety inspections are completed on the app and stored and shared electronically with customers and landlords. BigChange JobWatch is enabling service innovations such as real-time booking on the company’s website as well as a fully-branded ImpraGas mobile booking and payments app.

Joseph Valente, Founder of ImpraGas commented:

“We chose the BigChange system because we have ambitious plans to grow the company as quickly as possible and needed a system to manage our workforce efficiently and help us provide an excellent service to our customers. BigChange has transformed the way we do business.”

CEO’s Blog – Q&A with Best British Mobile Startup 2017 finalist, BigChange Apps

QA with Best british Mobile setup

Leeds-based finalist, BigChange specialises in mobile workforce management, and will be heading to Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress in February. Three other finalists will be competing, with only one of them set to be crowned the Best British Mobile Startup of 2017.

Who are BigChange Apps?

BigChange Apps are the next big thing in mobile workforce management. They have brought us JobWatch – an end-to-end solution that can be applied to almost any sector.

Those who sign up to JobWatch can see an increase in productivity and profitability just by using this little web-based app that packs a punch. It even integrates with accountancy software like Sage and Quickbooks for ease of use.

This revolutionary company started out in 2012 and is aiming to transform several industries with its software. The BBMS could be the springboard this company needs to infiltrate the global market.

What did they say about Best British Mobile Startup?

After their success in Leeds, we caught up with BigChange Apps, and this is what they had to say about their experience:

What made you enter the Best British Mobile startup competition?

The opportunity to showcase our business to the judges, and global investors, at the world’s largest annual mobile industry gathering was too good to miss! It’s a potential game-changer for us, and is something we want to be a part of. The MWC is a hive of innovation and excitement, and the prize itself is an opportunity of a lifetime.

How was your experience of winning the regional competition?

Competition was fierce; there were so many incredible pitches and innovative business ideas and platforms. Having applied previously in 2015, we knew how discerning the judges would be. We were overjoyed when we heard the result – it feels great to have reached the final and is a real credit to our team who have made the app and platform what it is today.

What do you think is the biggest challenge in a startup pitch?

Getting your proposition across concisely, emotively and engagingly in a short amount of time. There’s a lot you need to cover – from why it’s disruptive, why customers should care about it, to the traction you’ve already gained. The stakes are high, so you need to keep your cool. Absolute focus and true passion is essential.

How will you prepare for showcasing at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona?

Practise makes perfect! We will sharpen our pitch so we can make a huge impact in the final. We want it to be pitch perfect, but at the same time, we know taking part will be a lot of fun! The main thing is to look forward to this incredible opportunity.

Why will your company become this year’s Best British Mobile Startup?

Our product, JobWatch, has a lot to offer the supply side of the business and the end consumer – it’s an incredibly attractive proposition. We’re one of the first companies to combine a business management platform, an on-demand app for consumers, and a global collaboration network for sharing and sub-contracting work. Our growth in the last few years demonstrates the global potential. BigChange Apps also has great leadership and an energised, passionate team who are on a mission to really make a difference worldwide. These are the qualities that will make us a winner in 2017.

The final’s not too far away now. Will this app be a success like former winners RefMe and what3words? We’ll find out soon.

BigChange awarded Mobile Technology contract for Hargreaves’ 500-strong fleet

Hargreaves Lorrys

BigChange the Mobile Workforce Management technology specialist has won a contract to supply global mining, energy and logistics company Hargreaves Services Plc with its three-in-one JobWatch system, across their 500-strong fleet of specialist aggregates vehicles that includes tractors and trailers. Headquartered in Durham, Hargreaves Logistics transports over 7 million tonnes of bulk materials each year.

The turnkey solution from BigChange is introducing a paperless revolution at Hargreaves Logistics, equipping hundreds of drivers with a Samsung Android tablet that manages receipt of job instruction, electronic proof of collection and delivery, timesheets, electronic start-of-day vehicle walkaround checks, driver behaviour scoring promoting safe eco-driving, tachograph interface and Health and Safety procedures. The system is also a rich vehicle tracking system providing real-time location updates.

A full integration is in place with Hargreaves’ Stirling Solutions back-office Transport Management System meaning that planned collections and deliveries are automatically pushed through to the JobWatch system. On logging on to the JobWatch app at the start of each day, Drivers are guided to start their timesheet, conduct a walkaround check that meets DVSA requirements (recording, photographing and alerting any defects) and have instant access to the day’s run manifest.

The JobWatch system is saving the company hundreds of thousands of pieces of paper annually and has significantly improved back-office administration. Drivers used to amass multiple paper forms for each delivery and collection including delivery notes and weighbridge tickets. On return to the office, these required manual processing including scanning, filing and sending the originals back to the customer. With JobWatch, the workflow is paperless. Drivers receive accurate loading and unloading instructions, site staff complete the ‘sign on glass’ POD, and a time, date and location watermarked photo of the weighbridge ticket is captured by the driver. Proof of service is instantly relayed to the back office allowing for prompt invoicing. In addition, Hargreaves Logistics are benefiting from 24/7 on-demand RoadCrew customer service for all back office users and drivers including remote support and management of all tablets.

Andrew Spence-Wolrich, Managing Director at Hargreaves Logistics Division commented:

“JobWatch is bringing about a digital transformation for our logistics business. The JobWatch mobile App has streamlined workflows and enabled our drivers to be connected in real time with our back office. Flexibility and Integration with Stirling Solutions Transport Management System was what attracted us to JobWatch; for example we’re using the system to manage TASCC jobs and paperwork trails required for audit. This requires careful cleaning of trailers for loading with food for human consumption. JobWatch rigorously manages the workflow and ensures photographic proof of the process is saved.”

Drivers’ use of the timesheet and expense functionality on the app allows the Finance team to efficiently allocate costs to vehicles and drivers and run payroll. A timesheet reconciliation report combines drivers hours, tachograph information and vehicle tracking data. At the end of each journey drivers view their behaviour score allowing them to track their personal driving improvements and ranking.

Martin Port, Founder and CEO at BigChange commented:

“Hargreaves are embracing the JobWatch system across their logistics operation and are reaping the rewards from the technology. They are a truly future focused business and we look forward to further developing our relationship.”

CEO’s Blog – WHY KPIS ARE THE ENEMY OF GOOD LEADERSHIP

Enemy of good leadership

NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE MEASURED, BUT THAT DOESN’T STOP US TRYING. Data is the religion of 21st century business. Forget the false prophets of employee engagement, agility, tech or entrepreneurialism: numbers are what will get the board singing in the aisles.

To the faithful, data is nothing short of the irrefutable truth itself. Anything, from profit and performance through to wellbeing, can be reduced to an all-revealing number or chart. Those who can interpret them increasingly run the place. Those who can’t, to paraphrase W. Edwards Deming, are just people with opinions.

As with any religion, though, you will find the odd heretic. Renowned academic Clayton Christensen for instance recently warned MT about the dangers of using ratios to guide business strategy. Heaven forfend. You could almost hear the scandalised whispers in the City.

But what if the heretics have a point? Maybe measurements and targets are overrated. Maybe our obsession with KPIs is getting us in trouble.

‘Would you review a book based on the number of pages it has?’ Asks business performance consultant Chris Pearse. ‘It’s risible. You might want to know if it’s a 1500-page job that will keep you going all holiday, or if you’re spending a fortune on a ten-page coffee table book, but the whole raison d’etre of a book goes far beyond the physics of it. The same is true with any organisation.’

Pearse is quick to point out that, as a trained engineer, measurement is close to his heart. KPIs, he insists, are still fundamental to running a business, they’re just not sufficient. The problem is that we don’t seem to realise this fact.

‘I get cheesed off when people try to measure things that are palpably not measurable. A lot of companies purport to being able to measure employee engagement for example. You may say I’m being pedantic, but no you can’t measure it, you can assess it. To measure you need an absolute standard, such as a volt or an inch, that’s repeatable and that everyone understands. What’s the unit of measurement for engagement, a smiley face? It’s totally arbitrary.’

The distinction between measurement and assessment is an important one, because once we elevate something to data, we start basing decisions on it even when it goes against our better judgement.

This can lead to some unfortunate consequences because, in business as in quantum mechanics, observing something changes the thing being observed, and not always in a good way.

Measuring people against targets encourages gaming (think a car-park full of patients being kept in ambulances so the A&E department doesn’t flunk its waiting time targets) and short-term thinking. The nature of the stock market, for example, encourages short-termism in managers whose careers are dependent on meeting certain numbers.

‘It totally demeans the raison d’etre of the organisation and the real value they’re actually delivering to society and stakeholders. It’s insidious,’ says Pearse.

The way round this is to make sure firstly that we don’t measure things that can’t be measured and secondly that we accept that we can’t reduce business to a mechanics equation. The relevant working parts of an organisation – the employees, the customers, the investors and yes, even the boss – are human beings after all, and humans are unpredictable, emotional creatures.

It may just be that the best way to figure out whether your employees are engaged is not to perform psychometric tests but to talk to them. Stranger things have happened.

All this is a scary prospect for people who like hard facts and logic, and who dislike ambiguity. (Possibly because, as a school of academics led by Daniel Goleman suggests, we don’t make decisions based on reason at all, but on feelings which may or may not be affected by whether we believe a decision to be rational.)

It doesn’t mean, however, that we should abandon KPIs and metrics and apostasies from the church of data. What it does mean is that we should be open to the possibility that data doesn’t have all the answers. That way, you can respect quantifiable measures for what they are, while still keeping a place for good judgement.

CEO’s Blog – Leaner fitter BigChange organisation for 2017

Leaner, fitter, BigChange

BigChange Welcomes Dale Light, We will be providing a delicious healthy vegetarian meal selection comprising of fresh soups and main coarse dishes from next Tuesday.

We will be promoting this new initiative the food will not only be healthy and tasty but also good value for money hopefully this will meet everyone’s lunchtime budget.

NOW DOWN TO BUSINESS!!

I hope you are all keeping your New Year resolutions?

Party time is now over and it is time to get down NOW to losing that Christmas excess!

There is never an easier time to lose weight, than in January. Everywhere you look everyone is talking about diet, fitness and wellbeing. The latest ‘miracle’ diets are being tried by all.

Statistically we follow these kinds of diets for 2 weeks before boredom kicks in then the weight you have lost slowly creeps back on! Over the holiday, I have been studying all the different types of diet that are out at the moment and it is, as always, utterly contradictory.

Experts have agreed that the BEST diet after numerous researches of all diets is a plant based (vegetarian) low sugar diet without any artificial additives or preservatives.

We all know (experts included) that the best and healthiest way to lose weight is 1-2lbs per week but when your scales are showing that the pounds have piled on, it’s normal to be impatient and want it off quick!!

With this in mind I have launched BigChange weight management in collaboration with Dale’s Diet ‘Skinny Plan’ it is designed for a quick boost to your weight loss efforts.

It is still eating food, not crazy liquid drinks, but it is more hard-core than the normal eating plan and does have great results.

The problem one has when they do ‘Quick fixes’ is that as soon as you cut out food groups your brain registers you’re not having them. Once you return to suddenly eating them again, your body stores them in a panic and they are then stored as fat. This is why you need to reintroduce slowly, slowly.

It is not just calories we need to look at, it is protein, saturated fat and of course our new enemy those hidden sugars and even sweeteners! Sugar has now been proved to be as addictive and habit forming as nicotine or any drug.

By following Dales plan, the hard work is done for you and you can eat with confidence that you are eating healthily. The myth that you can’t eat certain foods (i.e. carbohydrates) when dieting is rubbish although you should reduce them.

Dale has lots of clients who have lost amazing amounts of weight by eating everything. I just cut the gluten, the wheat, saturated fat and sugar. Also one of the most important areas….the portion size. The hardest part of dieting is the planning, shopping and preparation of meals. Dale has done all that for you all you need to do is buy some salad/extra veg if required and any meat/fish if you wish to add.

One problem that many of us have is alcohol try to have a clean January if you can but if not certainly reduce your intake. Why not swap onto a spirit such as gin & tonic or vodka. It is less calories but also lasts longer wine is a definite unknown quantity and that’s where the problem lies. It is much easier to say no to an extra spirit than a quick refill of wine.

Exercise….the dreaded word….I don’t have time…I hear you say? We can all fit some exercise into our day; again we just have to think smart. No time for the gym? Why not run up and down your stairs 5 times in a row think about how much that is over a week and it gets the heart pumping, (The most important muscle in your body that most of us ignore!) Or take a lunchtime walk around the beautiful Colton Country Estate!

Park your car a bit further away from your destination than usual so you have to walk a little bit further each day. Try some sit ups before bed. Instead of getting in the car to go somewhere nearby think….no….I will walk. Walking briskly really is so beneficial. You have to find an exercise you enjoy so what about a Zumba class or any dancing class, make it fun and you will stick to it. As I always say little small changes make a BigChange all add up and over time make a massive difference.

DON’T PUT IT OFF START TODAY AND YOU WILL SEE A NEW YOU.

You will be happier, healthier and have a completely different outlook on life once you have achieved your goal.

CEO’s Blog – 1-Fleet Alliance holds landmark meeting in London to forge closer pan-European Telematics Collaboration

Fleet Alliance

Fleet Technology Entrepreneurs from across Europe met at London’s famous Savoy Hotel to strengthen business collaboration.

The 17 members of 1-Fleet Alliance – a group of telematics companies that together track over 500,000 vehicles throughout Europe – agreed to forge closer ties.

Following previous meetings in Barcelona and Budapest, the group agreed to form 1-Fleet Corporation, a commercial entity to represent the interests of the majority of the members. The group objectives include collaboration and networking, promoting innovation and telematics industry standardisation, as well as joint marketing and commercial agreements.

The meeting saw the appointment of Pedro Zamith, a well-known figure in the Automotive Technology arena, to oversee the development and launch of commercial propositions on behalf of 1-Fleet Corporation.

“This was a landmark meeting for 1-fleet alliance, taking our collaborative activities to a new level. One of the primary benefits of the alliance is that is looks after the interests of the market in general, rather than the interests of individual suppliers. Despite a changing political landscape affecting Europe, cross border trade will continue and technology will become increasingly uniform. At 1-Fleet Alliance we will drive innovation and standards in the telematics field for the benefit of fleet operators across Europe,” says Joe Fenech Conti, CEO of Loqus, one of the founder members of 1-Fleet.

This is the first ever pan-European alliance between leaders in the Fleet Technology and Telematics field and allows commercial fleet operators to benefit from the combined strength, global expertise and innovation brought by the diverse group membership.

Greys of Ely Brings Peace of Mind to Passengers with BigChange Online Coach Locator

Greys with Bigchange

Greys of Ely has employed the latest technology to provide instant locations of each of its coaches, so that customers and passengers can live track their coach through a simple online app. The solution from BigChange Apps integrates on board telematics with mobile apps to power the real-time Coach Locator app on the homepage of the company’s website. This gives operations managers a continually updated view of the entire fleet and gives customers detailed information about a specific vehicle.

Richard Grey, Managing Director of Greys of Ely, commented:

“We are one of the few, if not the only coach operator, to share – free of charge, on the homepage of our own website – the real time location of every vehicle. Powered by BigChange, this is extremely useful, not only for our clients, but also for their customers – the end users of the service. We get lots of feedback from parents of children on the daily school run or longer excursions, who love the peace of mind this service offers and appreciate the real time information which allows them to accurately plan drop offs and collections.”

The tracking app is part of the JobWatch solution from BigChange. This integrated web-based solution combines back office software, mobile apps and real-time vehicle tracking in one simple to use system. It provides a paperless way to plan, manage, schedule and track Greys’ coach hire operation, and it integrates fleet management, a ‘driver productivity app’ and automated daily driver checks.

“We are long term users of vehicle telematics, and understand the significant business advantages that real time monitoring of the fleet can provide,”

continued Grey.

“However, the integration of the coach tracking app and JobWatch takes this to the next level. We have boosted our customer service beyond expectations, improved driver performance and increased efficiencies across all aspects of the operation. With support from the 24/7 RoadCrew team, we can continue to achieve day to day improvements, maintaining our award-winning service.”

BigChange founder and CEO Martin Port added,

“Outstanding customer service is something we aspire to, at all levels, and helping our customers achieve it and helping them to stand out from the crowd is even better. The innovation and business acumen shown by Greys of Ely is akin to our own, and we are proud to work with them.”
